Discus Throwing requires athletes
to throw a lens-shaped disc as far
as they can. The disc used in the
Olympics is generally made from a
heavy metal with a rubber, plastic,
or wood border.
We have our own variation of the
Discus Throwing Event...
What You Will Need:
What You Do:
- Set boundaries of where the discus can be thrown, then mark off a circle on the ground - this is where the athlete will start.
- The first athlete stands in the circle and must start from a stationary position.
- The athlete throws the discus as far as they can, holding it in any way and throwing it using any technique. No part of the body may touch the ground outside of the circle after starting the throw.
- The athlete must not leave the circle until the discus has landed. The discus must land within the predetermined boundary.
- The distance covered by the disc is measured from the border of the circle to the point on the landing area where the disc touched the ground.
- Each athlete may throw the disc from three to eight times (you decide). The best throw is then recorded and evaluated for deciding the winner of the competition.
