In the Olympic Diving
competition, athletes
perform a series of dives
and are awarded points for
each dive, based on the
dive's difficulty and the
types of maneuvers attempted.
We have our own variation of the
Diving Event...
What You Will Need:
What You Do:
- Instead of athletes diving in the pool themselves, athletes compete by diving their submarines!
- "Divers" stand at the edge of the pool or large tub of water to start their dives. Each diver completes a series of three dives and receives scores for each dive. The athlete with the most points, wins this event.
- Dive #1 - Submarines must touch the bottom of the pool. Award 10 points. If the submarine went half-way to the bottom, award 5 points.
- Dive #2 - Submarines must spin at least once to be awarded 10 points.
- Dive #3 - The largest splash as the submarine enters the water is awarded 10 points.
- Award the Gold Medal to the athlete with the most points. Award the Silver Medal to the athlete in second place, and the Bronze Medal to the athlete in third place.
Variations:
- Allow athletes to practice the various dives before competing.
