Ghost Bubbles

Ghost Bubbles

Ghost Bubbles

Make a bubbly brew
in your backyard...
smokey bubbles multiply,
powered by dry ice!

Safety Warning: Adult supervision is required. Dry ice is much colder than regular ice and therefore, must be handled with extreme care. Make sure to wear gloves or an oven mitt when handling dry ice, and NEVER touch dry ice with bare skin (the dry ice will cause your skin to burn).

What You Will Need:
  • Dry Ice (can be purchased from a grocery store)
  • Water
  • Touchable Bubbles Bubble Mixture (dish soap, such as Ivory or Dawn, will also work)
  • Bucket or Tubtrug
  • Oven Mitt or gloves

What You Do:
  • Fill a bucket or tub about half-full of water.
  • Add bubble mixture to the water, and stir. The amount of bubble mixture you add depends on the size of your bucket or tub. The more bubble mixture you add, the better your bubbles will form.
  • Using an oven mitt or gloves, place the dry ice into the tub (please see handling information above). Bubbles will immediately start to build and will spill over and out of the bucket for an amazing effect! (The soap from the bubbles trap carbon dioxide from the dry ice to create the bubbles).

Variations:

The Science:

Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide. Dry ice doesn't melt like typical ice, it changes directly from a solid to a gas without going through a liquid stage. Dry ice is much colder than regular ice and therefore, must be handled with extreme care. Make sure to wear gloves or an oven mitt when handling dry ice, and never touch dry ice with bare skin (the dry ice will cause your skin to burn).
