Frozen Faces Treats

Frozen Faces Treats

Frozen Faces Treats

Here is a fun idea that lets
kids express themselves with
art that results in a tasty treat!

What You Will Need:
  • Plastic Storage Dish (a dish that is at least 6" square works best)
  • Playdough (or click here for our own home-made dough recipes)
  • Juice
  • Saran Wrap
  • Freezer

What You Do:
  • Line the bottom of a plastic storage dish with Playdough (or homemade dough).
  • Using your fingertips, create an interesting face in the dough. Press your finger straight down to create eyes, and a nose, and create a groove for a nice smile. You get the idea!
  • Line the dough with Saran Wrap, making sure the wrap extends up the sides of the dish by at least 1 inch.
  • Pour your choice of juice into the Saran Wrap. The weight of the liquid will cause the Saran Wrap to fill in the crevices created in the dough. We recommend you pour enough juice to create a depth of at least 1/2" — or more, as desired.
  • Set the dish in the freezer to freeze, or place it outside on a cold day to freeze. (NOTE: If you decide to put your dish outside to freeze, you might want to cover the top of the dish with Saran Wrap to prevent critters from getting into the juice.)
  • When the juice is frozen, simply lift out the Saran Wrap and peel it off your Frozen Face! You now have a unique work of art... and a tasty treat! Enjoy! (NOTE: If your child doesn't want to finish the entire Frozen Face treat in one sitting, simply wrap the face in the Saran Wrap and refreeze for another time).

Notes:
  • We have noticed that Playdough does not freeze completely and can be used again after removing the Frozen Face.

Variations:
  • You don't have to stop at creating faces! Create signs in the dough, or whatever designs you would like.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring to make swirls of color.
