Grow Your Own Easter Grass

Grow Your Own Easter Grass

Grow Your Own Easter Grass

Here is a fun activity for kids (and
adults) of all ages —
grow your own Easter grass!

These unique pots make wonderful
table decorations and Easter gifts.

What You Will Need:
  • Small Clay Pots (approximately 5" tall) with trays
  • Potting Soil
  • Grass Seed (we recommend Kentucky Blue Grass or other turfgrass seeds)
  • Ribbon (optional)
  • Colored Easter Eggs (optional)

What You Do:
  • Fill a clay pot with potting soil. (You may want to add water absorption crystals to the potting soil to help maintain moisture).
  • Sprinkle grass seeds on top of soil and cover lightly with potting soil — just enough to cover the seeds.
  • Sprinkle a light mist of water on the seeds, and place the pot in a sunny window.
  • In a couple of days, your grass will start to grow. Continue watering as needed.
  • When the blades of grass start to grow beyond 2", trim the grass using a sharp scissor. The grass will thicken as it grows.
  • Tie a colorful ribbon around the pot, and place a colored Easter Egg in the pot among the grass. Use the pots as a table decoration for an Easter dinner, then send a pot home with each of your guests as an Easter gift.

Variations:
  • Planting grass seeds in a clear vase makes for a beautiful, unique house plant. Place rocks in the bottom of the vase to allow for proper drainage, then fill the vase with potting soil. Plant the grass seeds and watch it grow! Keep the grass trimmed and watered and you have a unique indoor plant. A fun way to bring Spring into your home when there is still snow on the ground.
