Ice Cream in a Bag

Ice Cream in a Bag

Ice Cream in a Bag
A cool treat for a
hot summer day!

The day is hot...
and you're looking for something cool to do.

Here is a fun way to make quick ice cream!

What You Will Need:
  • 1/2 cup Half and Half Cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 6 tablespoons of Rock Salt (available at grocery stores)
  • 1 pint-size Ziploc Freezer bag
  • 1 gallon-size Ziploc Freezer bag
  • Ice cubes or crushed ice

What You Do:
  • Mix cream, vanilla, and sugar in the small Ziploc bag, then seal the bag well.
  • Place the small bag inside the larger bag, then add ice to the large bag, filling about half-way. Add rock salt and seal the bag well.
  • Shake the bag until the mixture turns into ice cream. This process typically takes 5-15 minutes.
  • Take the small bag out of the larger bag, open, and enjoy!

Variations:
  • Add ingredients to suit your taste.
  • Top the ice cream with sprinkles, fruit, or chocolate sauce.

Tips:
  • Ziploc Freezer bags work best, as they are thicker and do not puncture easily.
  • When sealing the bags, it is helpful to remove as much air as possible — this reduces the risk that the bag may puncture during shaking.
  • Rock Salt is not absolutely necessary — regular table salt will also work.
  • Ice cubes will work, but to make the bags easier for children to handle, you might want to crush the ice first, before putting the ice into the larger bag.
  • The bags will be cold to handle — you might want to have children wear mittens or oven mitts while handling the bags.
