Water Balloon Land Mines

A fun backyard water game that
builds teamwork.

Object of Game: Be the quickest
team to march across the Mine Field
with the fewest casualties.







What You Will Need:

• 2 Blindfolds
• Water Balloons (adjust the quantity of water balloons based on the size of the Mine Field area)
• 6 or more players to form two teams (the more players you have on each team, the more fun this game is)

What You Do:

• Fill up balloons with water
• Mark off an area in your yard to represent the Mine Field, then lay the water balloon mines randomly around the marked off area. (This game is most fun when the Mines are close together and the Mine Field is a fairly small area).
• Divide the number of players into two teams. Give each team a blindfold and have each team determine which player will go first.
• When the game starts, the blindfolded players must march across the Mine Field without touching a Mine. If a Mine bursts, he or she is out and must quickly pass the blindfold to another team player, who then must cross the Mine Field.
• Team members stand along side the Mine Field and help guide their team member by shouting out directions to help their blindfolded team member avoid the Mines.

Rules of the Game:

• Only one team member may be on the Mine Field at a time.
• No shuffling feet!

Variations:

• Styrofoam cups can be used instead of water balloons for indoor play.

This game is a lot of fun, especially when team members are shouting out directions — the blindfolded player has a hard time determining who is shouting directions and has to determine which directions to follow. This is a great way to reinforce teamwork!
